Listed in co.uk but not .com

Hello

I have a .co.uk site that is first for its subject in google uk but nowhere in google.com

The exact same .com name is not available, and it is pretty rare for co.uk sites hosted in the UK to rank in google.com

Do I need to buy a similar name, transfer the site across to a US host, and redirect the existing site, to get included in google.com results, or is there an easier way?
