I have the web site in place. It's got good SEO. Keywords on the pages, links are optimized, everything is ready.

How do I go about getting a search engine to recognize it (google) and how do I get a higher search engine positioning with it?

For Good Traffic Your Site Must Have Some Qualities Like :-
- Quality content
- Easy to use, keep it simple
- Submit site to the more & better search engines
- Update regularly SE like Freshness
- Word of mouth (tell every single friend that you have such a wonderful site)
- Exchange links pls visit http://www.submitshop.com/services
- Add a blog
- Use minimal code as possible...aka css tableless layouts
- Use H1 tags with your keywords
- Get more quality link, Backlinks
- By writing, submiting articles Directory etc.
